Brooklyn Beckham has publicly confirmed that he does not want to reconcile with his parents, Victoria and David Beckham, in a lengthy statement shared on his social media accounts this week. The statement, which quickly spread across news sites and social platforms, outlines a long-running family feud that the 26-year-old says has been going on for years.
In his post, Beckham said that he had “been silent for years” but felt compelled to speak out after his parents and their team continued going to the press about “lies that had been printed.” He wrote that he wants to “stand up for myself for the first time in my life” and made it clear he does not want a relationship with his family at this time.
Beckham criticised his parents for what he sees as controlling how the Beckham family is portrayed publicly, saying that for much of his life they shaped press narratives and staged social media posts that he found inauthentic. He added that he now feels freer and less anxious since distancing himself from that environment.
A significant portion of Beckham’s message focused on how his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, was affected by his parents’ behaviour. He claimed that his parents had tried “endlessly” to undermine his relationship even before his wedding. According to his account, Victoria Beckham pulled out of making one of Nicola’s wedding dresses at the last minute, forcing her to find an alternative. Beckham also alleged that his parents pressured him to sign over rights to his own name weeks before the ceremony and that when he refused, they treated him differently afterwards.
Beckham went on to describe further tension during the wedding celebration itself. He said that his mother “hijacked” the couple’s first dance by going on stage unexpectedly, an action he described as humiliating and inappropriate. He also claimed that members of his family told him that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family” in the days leading up to the wedding.
The dispute did not stop with the wedding. Beckham said that when he and Nicola travelled to London for his father’s 50th birthday party, they were initially turned away unless Nicola was not present. He also alleged that his family invited women from his past into social situations to intentionally make him and his wife uncomfortable. Beckham claimed that the priority placed on public image and endorsements eventually became more important to his family than genuine familial relationships.
In a further point about his mental health, Beckham wrote that he grew up with what he described as “overwhelming anxiety” and said that after stepping away from his family, that anxiety has largely gone away. He concluded his statement by saying that he and Nicola do not want a life shaped by media image or manipulation, but instead want peace, privacy and happiness for themselves and their future family.
As of this publication, Victoria and David Beckham have not issued a direct response to their son’s statement, though some coverage indicates mixed reactions in the press and on social media. The story has continued to make headlines, with additional commentary from both celebrity news outlets and public platforms.
